A false report made by a student of a man with a gun led to a lockdown at the Chester Academy in Orange County on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The age of the student has not been released.

Original report:

Multiple police agencies are on the scene at the Chester Academy in Orange County after reports of an armed man on the campus, according to the New York State Police.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday that there was a man in the lobby with a gun, said Trooper Steven Nevel.

"At this time there is no threat," Nevel said. "The school is on lockdown and we are doing a room to room sweep of the school."

Nevel also said officers were on scene at the Chester Elementary School across the street from the academy at 64 Hambletonian Ave., and the school was on a "lockout."

"There is no threat at the elementary school at this time," he added.

School officials put out a message to parents on their website saying: “At approximately 1:20 pm a 911 call was made. It is currently under investigation and police are on location. Chester Academy is under a lockdown and Chester Elementary School is under a lockout. Dismissal will be delayed.
